Literature Text

draw the breath from my lips with your own, darling.
glitter down my cheeks
and sing your way down my neck
before my collar-bone breaks
from the pressure in this room.
you're sitting right next to me, but boy,
i still miss you.
i probably will until i get courage to kiss you.
so let's break the mirror
and flutter feathers on the floor
as you stuff melodies down my throat
and i taste the sweet melancholy
of bitter nostalgia
while we dream of the days
when words were colors
and you used to paint across my body
the greatest of masterpieces and i felt like one myself.
you would paint me purple and yellow and green and blue
but never red...
that color already tainted my skin once before,
so i fell in love with the way you so tactically avoided
bringing up my biggest mistake.
compose stars into the skin around my wrists
and turn the scars into orange acronyms
that spell out the letters to your name.
engrave your lips onto mine
and leave butterflies suffocating in my stomach
and my heart racing like my legs to meet you tonight.
give me a reason to capitalize the letter 'i' when i say "i love you."
spit out self-esteem onto my spinal chord
and hopefully it will soak in to nourish my weary heart
as you massage it back to health and help it beat again.
show me how to make jupiter's storms stand still.
play quarter notes up my legs
and leave half rests lingering on my skin
as you teach me the similarities between a song and a kiss.
:iconthewrittenrevolution: what does the symbolism come across as to you? how can i make the symbolism clearer without it being too blunt? should i break the poem into stanzas to make it easier to read?
